I have so many travel excursions that I still need to fill you in on. Your girl is slippin’. Naw, bump that. I’m not slippin’. I’ve just been working hard at my new job. But I have to tell you about how I went to Baltimore a few weeks ago and fell in love with the city.

I had booked my trip to Iceland a while ago and it was leaving out of BWI Airport. Often times when a great airfare deal turns up I just book and worry about the logistics later. I needed a connecting flight from Detroit to Baltimore to make my flight out to Iceland. Since my flight wasn’t leaving until later in the evening, I decided to book an early flight and use the time in between to explore B’More. I had never been to the city and with all of the things going on with #FreddieGray and #BlackLivesMatter, I had to see it for myself.   I am so glad I did because the city was simply lovely.

My French Toast was delicious!

I figured out where to store my luggage at the airport and hopped on the rail to downtown Baltimore. Taking the train from BWI to downtown was incredibly easy because the station is right at the airport. There was even a free shuttle, Charm City Circulator, that went around downtown Baltimore. I’m a budget traveler so anything FREE is right up my alley. Once I got downtown I started my day of exploration by eating breakfast at Miss Shirley’s in the Inner Harbor. I needed to fuel up. The food was really good. I enjoyed my french toast and bacon.

What museums to visit in Baltimore.
Reginald F. Lewis museum.

I liked this display at the museum.
Dance Theatre of Harlem at Reginald F. Lewis Museum
Beautiful ballet costume from the Dance Theatre of Harlem

After eating, I headed to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African-American History and Culture.  The museum highlights the history and contributions of Black people who have made significant contributions to Maryland in all facets including science, art, education, community, entertainment and more. The museum was actually pretty small but I spent about two hours looking at the displays, watching vignettes and reading. It was a little nostalgic because the Dance Theatre of Harlem exhibit was being showcased on the second floor. It made me reminisce about living in Harlem. *happy tears*

It was so hot that day I wanted to jump in.

Once I finished at the museum I just walked around Baltimore Inner Harbor. There is so much to do and see in B’more that one day was simply not enough. I really didn’t have that much time to see most of the spots that I had on my to-do list because I had to hurry back and catch my plane to Iceland. It also didn’t help that I went to the Harborplace and The Gallery to shop and get my nails done. I couldn’t go out of the country with tore up feet and nails. And my feet were busted from walking the inner harbor all day. Note: Bring comfy shoes when you visit Baltimore.

Beautiful Baltimore.

You are probably wondering why I LOVED Baltimore so much. I can’t put my finger on it, but I will say that the people were great, the energy of the city was welcoming and any city by water excites me. It also helped that their public transportation was on point. Hey, Detroit. Take note. I seriously just enjoyed being in B’More. So much so, that I can’t wait to come back. I will need to knock the below items off my list when I visit again.
