A friend commented on my Facebook page that I “never let the grass grow under my feet” in response to all of my activities this past weekend. It’s so untrue. I’m actually quite the hermit. Social media is great for false illusions. I only post when I go out, so of course it may look like I’m always in the street. But I’m usually at home chillin’ on my couch.

This past weekend was an exception. I had a fun packed three days. Friday after work I went to Mashable’s Social Media Day Detroit (#SMDayDet) put on by the Social Media Association of Michigan.  It was my first social media day in Detroit and it was really fun.

The event began with a VIP reception which included a panel discussion on the topic of “Technology’s Role in a Re-surging City.” There were some dope panelists kicking knowledge about new Detroit. What I liked was that the panel was diverse. A true representation of Detroit. We were even treated to performances by some local Detroit artists including T-Baby from “It’s So Cold in the D” fame. Seven years later there is now a remix for it.  Oh Detroit, how I love thee.

I couldn’t stay that long at the event. I had to be in Clawson for a Haunted Detroit Tour. Who knew there was such a thing? The haunted house tour took us on a journey through metro Detroit to explore haunted buildings and locations. It was actually pretty cool and it was more of a history lesson than scary. But I swear I saw some ghost orbs in a photo I had taken. Freaky!

Do you see the ghost orbs in the middle. Those aren’t people standing.

The following evening I went to Royal Oak Music Theater to see D’Angelo. Seeing him perform live was a long time coming. I bought tickets to see him last year and he cancelled his tour. I was excited to see him perform this time.

D’Angelo is quite the performer. He sounded excellent live. The energy from the Detroit crowd was outstanding so he really fed off it which made for a great show. You could tell he was having a good time. Aside from two songs, I didn’t know any of the songs. I haven’t listened to Black Messiah yet. But it was still a great show even though I couldn’t sing along. His music is more funk now. I can dig it.

Did you guys have fun over the weekend?
