I’ve had a pretty eventful last couple of days and both times I was in Ontario, Canada. Last night I went to Windsor to watch the Detroit Ford Fireworks and stayed over night at the Caesar Windsor Casino Hotel. I joined my mom after work (yahoo…for a new job!) at the hotel for dinner, excellent seats at the fireworks, refreshments while we watched and a night at the hotel all compliments of Caesar Windsor. We had a great time. The view from the Canadian side was the bomb. Since we had the hook-up, we didn’t have to fight with crowds and maneuver our way to find a great spot to stand to watch the fireworks. I love Detroit but I think when it comes to watching the fireworks, renting a hotel in Windsor and staying overnight is the best way to go. More people come to see them in Detroit than they do in Canada. After all, they are technically in celebration of July 4th (even though it’s much earlier) and Canadians don’t celebrate that holiday. There weren’t that many people watching from the riverbanks in Canada. Which is why that would be the best option. You would have to spend the night because trying to cross the border with all of the traffic would take hours. Why not book a hotel and stay.

Kickin’ it in Canada.
On my way back into the states I was stopped by customs. I’ve always seen those unlucky folks parked off to the side getting inspected and thought to myself, “Dang! Glad that isn’t me.” Well this morning that was me. *sigh* I got stopped by a custom’s officer. They don’t play. They made me get out the car and leave all of my electronics in my car. I asked the officer if I could email my boss to explain that I was going to be late and he said, “No!” And that was that. I had to go into the custom’s office, wait for an hour to be interrogated. They wanted to know why I was in Canada. Who did I go see. What did I do. Where do I work. Have I been to Canada before. And the list goes on and on. I’m not sure if I was flagged because of the number of passport stamps I have or because I was in Canada twice in the last three days. Whatever the reason, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. It’s a hassle. I get they have a job to do, so I wasn’t too upset. Luckily my boss was cool about it.

Detroit made a scenic backdrop.
Aside from that debacle, the Detroit fireworks were spectacular. The best I’ve ever seen anywhere.
