The next day in Florence is where really got to sight see. We had all day to explore the city. But since we stayed out the night before until the wee wee hours of the morning. We got a very late start to our day and didn’t leave our apartment until 3pm. Yikes! But we ended up making the most of it.

We headed back to the city center of Florence which was a few bus stops from our flat. The city center is where all the action is in Florence. You can find cool outdoor markets, restaurants and a few historical attractions. We ended up getting into the Duomo right before it closed. ‘Duomo’ is the Italian term for Cathedral churches.  Il Duomo di Firenze is the main church of FlorenceItalyWe also were able to see the other churches in Piazza del Duomo, the Baptistery and Giotto’s Campanile.

Eating my first gelato.
There is something to be said about old architecture. It’s so beautiful. It makes me wonder how anyone could ever had made such large intricate structure without cranes. It always amazes me.
After we checked out the churches, we shopped the square and I had gelato for the first time from Grom. My friend is a vegetarian and doesn’t eat dairy and they sell the only gelato she can eat. They make a chocolate sorbet that doesn’t have any dairy in it. She was in heaven. And so was I. I can’t believe I lived in NYC for 14 years and never tried gelato at Grom NYC. Gelato sold everywhere. It was delicious. I had it a few times while I was in Italy.
I’d like to give a shout out to the lovely young lady who took my photos at the Duomo. My traveling partner HATED taking pictures. It was annoying to her. She doesn’t get the whole blogging thing and that I need pictures. My mother is the same way. She rolls her eyes when I ask for one. LOL. So to spare her annoyance I would ask anyone with a DSLR to take my picture while traveling. Even though I brought my travel tripod, I just felt it would be weird to put it up in the middle of the square to take selfies. So I made it do what it do.
