Happy Easter! I haven’t really been out anywhere since I got back from Puerto Rico and lawd did I have cabin fever. So I jumped at the chance when my friend invited me to the Tanqueray Trunk Show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit which also featured a live performance from rapper, actor and Oscar Award Winner Common. The venue was a cool spot for a trunk show and it was filled with beautiful people. It even gave me a Brooklyn feel. I was very impressed with my city.

I used the Common performance to try out that new app, Periscope. I live streamed it on the app. It was pretty dope. Until someone asked, “Who is Common?”  LOL. I like the app. I just don’t like the million notifications I get on my phone. I had to disable it. Have you guys tried the app? Is it better than Meerkat?

Simce last night was my first time actually going out since I have been back in Michigan, I was very unsure about what to wear. In NYC, you can get away with wearing anything and not feel under-dressed nor overdressed. If I was going to an event like this in NYC I could have gotten away with jeans, cute top and heels. But Detroit is different. Although it has been 14 years since I lived here, what I know is that everyone gets dressed up. Even if the occasion doesn’t call for it, folks get dressed up. Biggie didn’t call us ‘Detroit Playas’ for nothing.

Can you understand my ‘what to wear’ dilemma? I wasn’t sure and most of my clothes are still in storage. (Don’t ask.) I finally decided to wear a cute colorful printed crossover jumpsuit from Fashion to Figure (this is my new favorite store) I purchased last month. It was too big on the top so I had it altered. My tailor is the best so it ended up fitting like a glove. I wore it with some DKNY patent leather pumps and a J. Crew cross body handbag. I think it ended up being a perfect ensemble for the occasion.

I had a wonderful time at the event. I’m looking forward to the weather getting warmer and seeing what else Detroit has to offer.
