BirthdayOTBN

Last weekend was packed with activities. I ended up doing things both Friday and Saturday night. Which is unusual for me. I usually can’t muster up the energy to hang out two days in a row. I’m getting old!!

Me and Kali

I went to my friend Kali, of Hip Hop Hard Body, birthday dinner at Favela Cubana in NYC.  The food was ok, but they were very accommodating being that we had reservations for a party of 12 at 8:45pm and only 4 of us was there by 9:15pm. Usually restaurants in NYC will not seat you until your whole party arrives, but they sat the 3 of us fairly quickly. That was a win because we were starving. We actually ended up ordering before the birthday girl arrived. The rest of the party didn’t get there until after 10pm. I think we would have fell out due to starvation if we didn’t order our food.

Open The Bottle Night

Myself and Lyneka

Saturday night, my friend Lyneka had her annual Open The Bottle Night (OTBN) in Brooklyn. OTBN is celebrated on the last Saturday of February every year. The annual event was started by the WSJ’s Tastings columnists Dottie Gaiter and John Breche. The premise is for everyone to pick one of the bottles that they have been saving for a special occasion – which never comes around – and open it before it goes bad. So everyone has to bring a bottle of wine to the event and speak about why you chose to bring that particular wine. This is my 3rd time attending Lyneka’s OTBN and this time I brought sparkling apple cider since I don’t drink alcohol. The 1st year I brought wine and the second year I brought non alcoholic wine. The non alcoholic wine I brought was gross. This time I decided to bring something I could actually drink. My sparkling apple cider was actually a hit. They drank it all.
